Lady
Kiteflyers, an affiliated kite club of American Kitefliers
Association (AKA), was organized at Washington State International
Kite Festival (WSIKF) in August, 2001 and.in September,
2002 affiliated with AKA. Since then, we have actively recruited
110 members at workshops and festivals in the USA and Europe.
The
mission of Lady Kiteflyers is to provide a network of support
to women kiteflyers and kitemakers at workshops, on the
beach or at conventions and festivals. Over the past six
years it has been extremely helpful for women in learning
new kitemaking skills, launching kites on the beach, sharing
transportation, and accommodations.
Additionally,
we have participated in a summer camp for Oregon kids with
cancer. Our members are active in promoting kids kiteflying
activities on the beach and in classrooms. We encourage
family participation whenever and wherever possible.
We
have participated in the WSIKF Terrific Tuesday competitions
and have won the lst Place Trophy the past three years.
At this event, newcomers can learn how to fly a variety
of kites.
Our
annual Lady Kiteflyer Fun Fly will be held during National
Kite Month on Saturday, April 14, 2007 at Rockaway Beach,
Oregon.
Membership
is free, but Members are encouraged to make a small kite
for our Kite Arch. We are connected via E-mail and an occasional
newsletter called The Hot Flash.
